Two things fascinated Tassos Theodorakis during his early childhood, music and wood. This inherent curiosity and interest later grew to be an unconditional love for both.

At the same time, he grew a very strong interest in observing musical forms and their origin in time. Music became a passion for him.

At the age of eleven, he felt the urge to find his own guitar .which he later did. in a dustbin and immediately put himself into repairing it. This first sign of spontaneous devotion was the occasion for the union of music and wooden instruments in his heart.

At the age of eighteen, his love for music brought him to Thessaloniki to follow a course in jazz guitar. During his studies he realized that there are no limits in music and wondered upon the infinite possibilities for its production, so he started experimenting on constructing musical instruments on his own.

His family roots in Eastern Thrace played a very important part in his changing of direction versus traditional music, so he started to construct traditional hand-made musical instruments and also to practice the Oud and Tamboura.

Huge world opened itself before him, when he realized that wood, music and tradition were a single unity for him.

From that moment on, he began experimenting versus this direction and he tried to be an apprentice to other Greek luthiers. After finding several doors shut, he didn't give up and started travelling to Istanbul and Italy where he created strong bonds with well-known luthiers who passed on to him century-old secrets about the best materials for the construction of traditional musical instruments, including the best techniques which many important craftsmen use. In the company of these people he learned to respect the personal history that every single old instrument carries in it so he devotedly and with great caution tries to actually "heal" the musical instrument rather than just repair it.

Since then, combining his artistry, devotion, patience, and insistence, Tassos has continued his journeys in the world of traditional music, seeking the finest sound and the finest materials, constantly aiming higher in his search.
